Ultrasound

Our Peninsula Vet Care hospitals have ultrasound machines that allow us to “look inside” your pet, without the need for an anaesthetic or surgery. Though sedation and a small clipping of fur may be required, ultrasound can provide us with non-invasive, valuable information about organ tissue or affected body systems, allowing us to diagnose.

When is ultrasound used?

  • Collecting urine samples from the bladder
  • Assessing the chest and abdomen following trauma (i.e. car accidents)
  • Assessing masses, organs or tissue for disease
  • Collecting biopsies
  • Assessing hearts for signs of disease or early signs of heart failure (for heart disease we can request a full examination by a cardiac veterinary specialist)
  • Pregnancy ultrasonography
