Ultrasound is a fabulous tool we have that allows us to ‘look inside’ your pet in a painless and non invasive way. It requires some hair to be clipped away so we can get the best images possible, and for some studies sedation is ideal to reduce stress on your pet and to allow the most accurate measurements. Many of our talented vets have done extra study in ultrasound, and are able to perform a detailed abdominal examination. Ultrasound beams do not go through gas, so some areas in the chest and intestines can be difficult to image. X-ray and endoscope can give the results we need in those areas. We can also perform cardiac ultrasound, and also have a veterinary cardiac specialist available with specialist ultrasound when required.
